It’s here!!! It’s finally here!!! The Breeding Tree is available for sale.

I thought I’d take a few moments to walk you through the glamour of a book launch. Up until this point, I’ve been writing blog posts, preparing launch day activities for the Facebook page, editing, communicating with editors and my author rep to make sure everything is just right. But that’s all the before-hand stuff. What really happens on the day of the launch?

This is what launch day looks like: Me sitting at my computer in my kitchen writing to you. 🙂

I’ve had people ask if I’m having a party or what I’m going to do to celebrate. Yes, I’m celebrating, but not in the way you’d expect. Am I wearing a ball gown and waltzing across the floor? No. But neither am I sitting in my PJs. So far today, I woke up, worked out, got ready for the day. I went to eat breakfast when I realized the bread my son used to make his lunch was bad. I realize it was bad because of the upset stomach now plaguing me from the sandwich I ate last night made out of the same bread. So, I head to the store for bread fresh enough to eat, make a sandwich, and bring it to my son at school.

My mom pops over for a second. “Congratulations, Ms. Author!” she says. She visits for a while, borrows some spinach for a soup and heads home. Then I sit down to write this post.

There are no balloons, no yelling shouts of praise, no cakes (Good thing, I don’t really like cake, but I could go for some cranberry orange scones…Hint, hint…Dad. ), no fancy dinners. (It’s only 11:30 A. M.) I’ll hang out on Facebook at the party for a while, clean my house, and go to worship band practice. But other than that, it’s a normal day.

Except it’s not. Today is the culmination of three years of hard work, three years of brainstorming, writing, editing, editing, critiquing, editing and more editing. It’s the result of months of promotions and plans and re-working those plans, oh, and more editing! But the real celebration is not today. The real celebration will come when readers talk about The Breeding Tree, when one friend says to another, “Hey, I just read this book and really liked it. Here, you should read it.” This is what I celebrate today: the love of reading and the hard work put into creating a book.

Thanks to all of you who had a part in it.

THE BREEDING TREE-- final coverTHE BREEDING TREE:

Is the opportunity to create the next generation of life a dream come true or a deadly nightmare?

When seventeen year old Katherine Dennard is selected to become a “Creation Specialist” in Sector 4, the opportunity sounds like a dream come true. But Kate soon discovers the darker side of her profession – the disposal of fetal organs and destruction of human life. It makes sense, really. In a society where disease and malformations don t exist, human perfection demands that no genetic “mutants” be allowed to live. For Sector 4, “survival of the fittest” is not just a theory – it’s The Institute’s main mission.

When Kate discovers that The Institute is using her DNA to create new life, her work gets personal. In order to save her unvia
ble son, she’ll have to trust Micah and his band of underground Natural Born Rebels. The problem is, if The Institute discovers her betrayal, the next body being disposed of could be hers.
